Here's what Sarah of Cakes by Mrs F had to say of this beautiful, big and fabulous Italian wedding at Elmore Court...
I met the lovely Maria & Anthony at the Loved by Whitewed Great Western Wedding Show at STEAM, Swindon in 2019.
The happy couple were to be married at the beautiful Elmore Court in Gloucestershire; it was a big Italian wedding with over 250 guests! Maria had previously visited a Wedding Show in London and saw the most amazing cake stand that she instantly fell in love with; she knew she wanted to incorporate the stand into her own wedding cake.
After a lot of research I managed to track down a company that would be able to make this bespoke stand. Maria, Anthony and I met for a consultation where we spoke about all their plans for their big day! The cake stand was a definite and the designing of the cake was left to me. After making the exciting purchase of the stand it arrived, 3 months later! As soon as the cake stand arrived I sent lots of pictures to the happy couple to be!
With over 250 guests attending, one of the biggest weddings Elmore Court has ever had (!), It was going to have to be a big cake. To finish putting the cake together I needed a step-ladder to put the final few tiers on!
Maria and Anthony really wanted it to have that WOW factor, and height was also important. The cake stood at 4ft before being set up on the most beautiful table. Thank goodness for spirit levels to ensure it was completely straight!
The cake normally sits where the wedding breakfast takes place, but as there were so many guests and they wanted it to be a statement piece, it was placed in the ceremony room as the happy couple were having a church wedding.
The crystal cake stand matched the centrepieces supplied by Venues Covered in the Gillyflower where the wedding breakfast took place. Wendy House Flowers dressed the chandelier centrepieces with beautiful flowers which matched Maria’s bouquet.
The happy couple wanted the whole cake to be cream. The top tier had cream piped polka dots with a large sugar flower spray on top. The next tier was decorated with cake lace and an edible pearl beading followed by a monogram of M&A’s initials. The top three tiers sat on the smaller part of the crystal stand. The two bottom tiers were dressed with sugar flowers and piped flower details which sat on the base cake stand.
Sticking to tradition it was important to M&A that the top tier would be fruit cake and kept for the christening cake. The many sugar flowers on the cake were also to be kept for the christening cake and something to keep from their big day.
A five tier cake meant the option for five different cake flavours! The final flavours were fruit cake, vanilla sponge, lemon drizzle, raspberry and white chocolate and the biggest being a chocolate cake!
It was an absolute pleasure to work with Maria & Anthony to create their dream cake!
