This month we asked award-winning Whitewed Approved Hey Pesto Catering to tell us how they pivoted their catering business during the Coronavirus pandemic. 

Hey Pesto Catering are an award-winning catering and event co-ordination company based in Gloucestershire, they pride themselves in offering food that is always freshly prepared using locally-sourced, high quality ingredients, to ensure your Wedding Breakfast is simply spectacular! Not only will you receive the greatest quality catering, their friendly and personable wedding co-ordinators will make sure you are supported the whole way through - from day one of making contact with them, right through to set up and co-ordination of your big day! It's not often you'll find a service like that!

Here they share what makes them different and what they've been up to over the last 9 months to keep their business going as the Coronavirus pandemic hit...

Tell us about Hey Pesto, the person behind it and what you offer

Symon and Chrissie are the brains behind the business, they started Hey Pesto over 15 years ago! Together, they have been providing 5* service and food to all our customers. Over time, the team has grown and we are now catering for over 60 Weddings a year and have over one hundred corporate clients.

We provide catering for corporate lunches and events, weddings, and large or small events. We pride ourselves on offering a friendly and personal service. With choices of dishes selected from our extensive set-menus, or bespoke options tailored to your wishes, all our culinary delights are freshly prepared using locally sourced, high quality ingredients. We have a fantastic team that are extremely professional and passionate about providing only the best.

What makes you different?

Our Team are second to none. We have fantastic Chefs who love to create bespoke menus which allows you to have exactly what you love! Our Coordinators are passionate and dedicated about what they do which means you do not have to worry about a thing. We always go above what is expected and will do anything we can to make sure your event or Wedding goes perfectly!

What have you loved so far?

We’ve genuinely loved it all! We are so lucky that we get to work with such wonderful people and we have loved every Wedding and Event that we get booked for. This year certainly makes you appreciate it all!

A little birdie tells me you’ve been super busy during lockdown with a series of new services, do tell us all about them!

YES!! Well during the first lockdown we were delighted to help Food4Heroes by providing hot meals for NHS staff at Gloucester & Cheltenham Hospitals. We supplied 3000 meals per week! When restrictions began to ease, we promoted our Private Dining and Cooking Lessons, and they were a real hit and kept us busy. When a second lockdown was announced for November we quickly adapted again and started Pie Time - a takeaway service for delicious homemade pies and sides. This has been such a huge success that we have continued it into December! It has been a tough year, but we are so proud of the team, all of whom have adapted and made a success of our new services.

Who cheers you on?

We get so much support from everyone; we are incredibly lucky. Fellow Wedding Suppliers are unbelievable in their encouragement, whether it is sharing our posts on social media or recommending us to their couples or inviting us to their Open Days. Our couples are also the BEST! Current and past, they cheer us on by purchasing our Pie Time or our Gift Cards and leave us the most wonderful reviews! Finally, we couldn’t do it all without our family and friends that support us in everything we do.

In your day to day role, what can’t you live without?

Trying the food!! We all love food so any opportunity to eat a freshly homemade scone or sausage roll and we will be there. It is a real perk of the job!

What’s next for Hey Pesto?

Hopefully, we’ll be able to provide our services at Weddings again next year as that is such a passion of ours and it would be wonderful to see all our couple who have had to postpone finally get married! We may even continue Pie Time, we’ll have to wait and see! For now it’s one step at a time but it’s exciting to have been able to adapt and know we can thrive even in the most difficult circumstances.
