Meet our Supplier of the Month: Niche Events

Each month we like to get to know a supplier even better and bring you snippets you won't know about them from their page. This month our supplier of the month is Niche Events, a Swindon based décor hire and team of event stylists who offer luxury yet affordable styling for your wedding or event. They have a vast collection of hire items and inspirational ideas to help you create your dream wedding set up.

Whatever the look…be it vintage, rustic or even those who love a little bit of sparkle…there is something for all... they will design and style your event to perfection.

Let's hear what the team at Niche Events had to say when we quizzed them...

Who runs Niche Events and how did you start out in business?

Niche Events is run by Usha and Nisha Karavadra. We started organising and decorating events from a very young age, with family members coming to us to help make their parties or gathering a beautiful success. From here, our passions and skills grew and with that, Niche Events was born!

What is your greatest fear when you are working on a wedding?

I wouldn’t say we have any fears, but we do both get anxious before setting up for any event, and that’s because we are both perfectionists and want it to be faultless! Luckily, we have a really thorough working system, so it’s very rare that we are unable to execute a plan as expected. Thankfully for those rare occasions, we’ve already got a plan B mapped up. Being so organised certainly helps with keeping the nerves calmer and fears at bay!

Oh hang on.. Ladders! Oh, now that is a fear! You won’t find Usha up a ladder, thankfully we’re a duo so it’s Nisha to the rescue on this one.

What is your greatest extravagance that helps you get through the day?

I think it’s a well-known fact to our family, friends and other suppliers that Team Niche survive on Lucozade, Chocolate, and cakes during busy weekends! It’s amazing knowing so many amazing cake makers in this industry – it certainly helps when the days are long and our energy low!

What is the best theme you have seen at a wedding?

Oh, we are both so different when it comes to our fav styles and what themes we love to see.

Nisha loves anything with a bit of bling or sparkle. Add in some bright lights and diamonds and you’ve got Nisha hooked!

Usha on the other hand is totally different, preferring a softer rustic look. Beautiful florals and white wins over her heart!

What is the hardest thing a couple has ever asked you to do for their day?

We are really lucky that we generally have such lovely couples, and so enjoy going the extra mile for them whenever possible.

The hardest thing is when we must tell a couple ‘no’ especially when it’s at a stressful moment for them. We have been at a set up on the morning of a wedding before where the couple have hired a few of our items, but not a full styling service. The couple had left out all of their own items to be set up too as ‘we were the decorators, so it was our job to set it all up’, and so it was a tricky moment when the venue co-coordinators and ourselves had to approach the couple and explain that we were only there to set up what we had brought, and not everything in the room that wasn’t hired through us.

When was the last time you laughed out loud at a wedding? What happened?

Oh goodness, we’ve had a lot of laugh out loud moments over the years, and we share lots of them to our social media (when appropriate of course!). Head over there and you’re sure to find a story or video to giggle too!

One of the most memorable moments that comes to mind is when I was stood on a stool during a set up but got too terrified to step off it! I have such a fear of ladders, and although this wasn’t high, I froze and just couldn’t jump down! Nisha kindly recorded a 20-minute video of me complaining and laughing – you’ll have to watch it to get the full affect!

We had another funny moment recently whilst at a set up for a party. Nisha went to move and knocked the nozzle of a helium tank which let off a rather funny sound! Nisha was none the wiser, however there was a gentleman nearby who looked horrified as the sound he thought had come from her! Nisha apologised and carried on but I couldn’t stop laughing! When I told her why I was laughing, she was totally mortified and kept telling me to hurry up so we could finish and leave.

What moment are you most proud of in your profession?

I think the proudest moment for us is when we went fully self-employed and bought the Studio we are currently in. It has taken A LOT of hard work, but we couldn’t be happier.

Where is your favourite setting for a wedding?

Oh, this is difficult to answer as there are so many gorgeous styles of venues and settings and we work with some of the most beautiful places. Again, due to how different our tastes are we both love different settings. Nisha loves the Hotels and larger resorts, whereas Usha loves the more romantic barns and manor houses. What we really love is that any venue can be totally transformed with some Niche styling, even a village hall!

What is the one thing you can’t live without in your job?

Usha ‘needs’ her phone! She is absolutely glued to her phone and Filofax!

Nisha…Full fat coke! Enough said.

What question do you wish every couple would ask you when you are meeting with them for the first time?

There isn’t a particular question we love you to ask, but we do love it when you tell us straight away your date, venue and budget. This way we can work collaboratively with you from the very beginning and offer you the options that are suitable and affordable for you.

If you do want to ask us a question, then we love it when you ask us for our ideas and suggestions. We have styled hundreds or venues and know what works! We love to create beautiful and inspirational styling so ask us what we’d do, and we’ll happily share our thoughts with you.

Where do you draw inspiration from for your work?

Our biggest inspiration comes from the internet. Social media is amazing for seeing what trends are coming, and we always take note of styling and trends at elaborate and extravagant weddings as this will slowly filter down to the levels of weddings that we are working on. We will see something we love, and straight away get to work at figuring out how we can incorporate the high-end luxury at a more affordable option to our couples.

Again, having different styles means we are both always picking up different ideas and seeing how we can make them work for Niche Events.

What would people be surprised to learn about you and/or your work?

I genuinely think our ages are what shocks everyone when we meet them…I’m not sure about ageing gracefully, but I think when we say we are late 30/almost 40 jaws always drop every time!
