Let's hear what Adam of Bands For Hire had to say when we quizzed him - from the most popular band style through to when to book...
Who’s the person behind Bands For Hire, and how did you start out?
Hello there, my name’s Adam Mezzatesta and I founded Bands For Hire in 2010. After a decade of performing in bands I was ready for an exciting new project to put all of my creative energy into and so Bands For Hire Ltd was born.
What sort of bands do you have on offer?
For us it’s all about the quality of the band, I’ve always believed that no matter what style of band it is, if the quality is there, then there has to be a market it for it.
Our most popular wedding bands tend to be those that perform a little bit of everything, from golden oldies to modern chart music, although we do also offer everything from Mariachi bands, roaming acoustic bands and world music acts to 80s bands, jazz bands and classical musicians.
What’s the best bit about your job?
I love it when we discover a new band that’s so good we just know they’re going to fly off the shelves. It’s really satisfying to sign musicians up and be able to provide them with a steady income from performing.
Why hire a professional band?
There’s nothing like the energy from a live band, especially when there’s a real connection with the audience. When the band come on stage at a wedding, that’s when guests know it’s time to dance!
What is your absolute favourite band / type of music?
I personally have really varied tastes, from indie and rock to Drum ‘n’ Bass and even if a little slice of cheesy pop music. But… when I got married we hired a 50s rock ‘n’ roll band who were perfect for our DIY / vintage themed day.
What is your greatest fear when you are working on a wedding or event?
When I was in a band myself, my biggest fear was most definitely the first dance. It’s the most special moment of the evening and there can be no mistakes, so the thought of playing a bum note is always in the back of your mind - even though I had usually listened to the song 20 times a day for a month!
What is your favourite setting for a wedding?
I'm a big fan of rural barn weddings, there are some beautiful venues in Norfolk where we often used to play, they just seem to lend themselves to a more informal and relaxed vibe.
What bit of advice would you love to share with couples?
Deciding on a band can be overwhelming at times as there are so many acts to choose from. My advice is to start your search locally for the best prices and try to book at least a year in advance to ensure good availability, ideally 18 months if possible.
When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I actually wanted to be an architect for most of my younger years until I discovered that I could actually play music and get paid for it – much to the disappointment of my parents I imagine!
