Flowers for Mums

With the focus on the bouquets and buttonholes, the Mothers of the Bride and Groom can often be forgotten when it comes to wedding flowers so we asked Whitewed approved florist Fi Passey of Corky & Prince to explain the options.

Corsages, all you need to know

There are three main options for personal flowers for Mums and Grandmas in your wedding party.

  • The traditional choice is a floral corsage - this is a delicate spray of flowers, worn on the right shoulder, with the flowers pointing downwards. It is usually secured with a special corsage pin or for delicate fabrics, a hidden magnet. However, check with your florist as magnets should not be used by people with pacemakers.Corsages, all you need to know

  • An alternative would be a female buttonhole - this is a single or small group of flowers tied together with silk, ribbon or twine. Again, it;s worn on the right hand side but this time the flowers face upwards.
  • An increasingly popular choice is a wrist corsage - these are made on a satin ‘snap’ bracelet, usually covered with ribbon and decorated with flowers. This is a great choice for Mums wearing a shorter sleeved dress or jacket.Corsages, all you need to know

The colour of corsages or buttonholes can be tailored to the outfits or could be a selection of the smaller flowers from your bridal bouquet. In terms of who should have them, the Mothers of the Bride and Groom plus any other significant female members of your wedding party such as a Grandma or a sister or friend who’s doing a reading for you.
